John met all of these ladies in service the other day. The lady in the green striped shirt accepted the magazines. John sent me back to meet them a few minutes later. They were so friendly and happy to let me take their picture. This is a scene that is repeated frequently....food preparation for a family event. This time, it was for a baby shower.
They are from Pollap. It is an outer island of Chuuk in the Pattiw group of islands.
They are taking all of the bananas off of the stalk, peeling them to be cooked.
Don't be fooled by her lack of smile. She was extremely friendly and invited us to return.
They are shredding coconut. On the right side of the photo, you can see a coconut husk. It is sitting on a sharp metal piece that is used to do the shredding. That is what you can see being done on the left.
These ladies are preparing breadfruit. First, it is peeled, cut up then boiled in coconut milk.
